THIS EXAMINATION WILL ESTABLISH AN OPEN COMPETITIVE AND PROMOTIONAL LIST TO FILL ONE YEAR TERM POSITIONS STARTING AUG! UST 2014.

This recruitment may be used to fill term (limited-permanent) positions. The selected candidates may be hired to fill one-year term positions and sign a term of employment letter specifying conditions and exact dates of employment. At the discretion of the District Attorney, the term may be extended up to a maximum of two one-year terms. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

RESUME REQUIREMENT: In order to be considered for this recruitment, candidates are required to submit a resume at time of application.

SCORING: Your score will be determined by a training and experience rating of the completed application package. You will receive 50 points for meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed on your application. After these requirements are met, a review of your application, resume, and supplemental attachment will be completed with up to an additional 50 points! awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Ba! r exams candidate has successfully passed (Up to 2 points)
  • Ranking of law school attended by candidate (Up to 5 points)
  • Class standing of candidate in law school (Up to 6 points)
  • Law Review/Trial Advocacy/Moot Court/Mock Trial Participation (Up to 8 points)
  • Prosecutorial or judicial clerkship/internship/externship (Up to 8 points)
  • Experience trying jury trials to final verdict (Up to 2 points)
  • Length and type of legal experience (Up to 3 points)
  • Other significant experience/factors (Up to 9 points)
  • Personal narrative (Up to 7 points)
MISCELLANEOUS: Candidates selected for interview will be required to submit a writing sample and law school transcripts to the District Attorney's Office, for review, prior to the scheduled interview date.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited law school or university at the time of appoint! ment. Full-time experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is desirable.

(Note: Applications may be submitted for consideration during the last year of law school.)

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre-and post offer background check for positions within the District Attorney's Office. Periodically, after employment, background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Researches applicable legal and factual issues using computerized techniques and/or law library materials at the direction of an attorney or judge! . Interprets and applies laws, court decisions and other legal authorit! ies in the preparation of briefs, pleadings and other legal papers. Drafts memoranda, opinions and other documents related to findings on specific cases or issues. Researches and explains departmental, County and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains accurate records and files; prepares a variety of records and reports as assigned. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer in the performance of the work. May drive a personal or County vehicle in the course of the work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
