      This position is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas office serves as the main office and headquarters of the district, with most of the attorneys and staff based in this office. Our office is in the downtown area of Las Vegas, known as the Arts District. The Las Vegas metropolitan area has a population approaching two million people and is among the fastest growing areas in the Southwest. It is renowned for entertainment and gaming, but also abounds in recreational, cultural and educational opportunities. The influx of people into southern Nevada has increased the availability of excellent and affordable housing, expanded the public school system, and resulted in shopping and consumer services that rival or surpass those of much larger cities. The cost of living is moderate, and there is no state income tax.       Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

      Responsibilities The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada is hiring two (2) Criminal Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) to work on violent crime and related offenses. Individuals hired for these positions will be assigned to the Organized Crime Strike Force. As a member of the Strike Force, assignments will include the investigation and prosecution of violent offenses, including car-jackings, robberies, felon in possession of firearms, and the use of firearms in connection with drug trafficking or violent offenses.

      Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

      Qualifications Assistant United States Attorneys assigned to the Criminal Division must possess the qualities necessary to excel in their mission to enforce the criminal laws of the United States. These qualities include superior advocacy and communication skills, strong analytical ability, ability to work with others, management and leadership potential, and dedication to duty. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, investigative agencies, witnesses, and crime victims. They must also demonstrate their willingness to meet the higher ethical standards expected of prosecutors in their interactions with opposing counsel and the courts.

      Significant courtroom experience, including jury trials, is preferred. Successful candidates will also be computer proficient, capable of doing their own legal research and writing, and self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Relevant favorable experience includes investigating and prosecuting or defending violent, firearms, and drug crimes. Experience with human trafficking or victim-related crimes is ideal. Grand jury practice, pro-active and reactive investigation experience, including but not limited to wire taps, electronic surveillance, tracking devices, search warrants, and asset seizure and forfeiture, is preferred.

      Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1-year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

      United States citizenship is required.

      Evaluation Method:
