- Prepares and handles billing for accounts to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Identifies insurance requirements including DMERC and Medicaid qualifications needed to ensure requirements are met.
- Researches overdue accounts and follows up by mail and/or phone to insurance carriers or customers on delinquent payments.
- Reviews claims denied for payment and underpaid claims.
- Resubmits claims with proper documentation for further carrier review.
- May coordinate collection activities for delinquent accounts by preparing information for collection agencies or attorneys.
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding account status in a timely manner.
- Researches customer's accounts thoroughly and documents appropriately.
- Resolves discrepancies! and prepares adjustments and refunds as necessary.
- A! udits incoming paperwork for completeness and accuracy to ensure proper documentation for billing purposes.
- Records batches received and documents errors.
- Brings recurring issues to the attention of the department supervisor.
- Reviews claims denied for payment and underpaid claims.
- Verifies payment information adjustments to supervisor.
- Complies with the Fair Debt Collector Practices Act (FDCPA).
- Ensures that all information regarding collection activity of account is entered accurately into the billing system.
- Initiates payments and resubmits bills as necessary.
- Pursues patient for payment obligations when insurance defaults as permitted by law or contractual relationships.
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor
- Medical Billing experience or training (certified coder a plus).
- Able to analyze and rectify claims issues.
- Basic understanding of DME equipm! ent and products preferred.
- Excellent phone, computer, and customer service skills.
- Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, and work independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
